My weekend with Nicolas Cage
First things first. The cat’s name is Shamoo and I think it fits him well. Last night was the first night of peaceful rest without being interrupted by the cat meowing. Nice. I watched a couple of movies this weekend: National Treasure, Saved, and Face Off.
National Treasure was pretty good. Of course I had 6 margaritas while I was watching it, but even without the margaritas I thought it was a good action flick. It certainly won’t be willing an Oscar for anything, but it was entertaining and that’s all I ask. Saved was a good satire on private schools and born again Christians. Again, not amazing, but entertaining.
I originally tried to watch Face-Off about 9 years ago and turned it off halfway through the movie. I just found the concept so unbelievable, plus John Travolta is so much bigger than Nicolas Cage, I just couldn’t see it. It was like the giant alien cockroach in Men in Black fitting inside the farmer. At least that was an alien, so there was an explanation. After some prompting, I sat down to watch it again. For some reason I wasn’t quite as irritated by the concept this time.
I went for a bike ride on Sunday for the first time in years (maybe 6 or 7 years). I went 5.5 miles and topped out at 25.5 MPH. Not bad for my return. I was pretty winded when I got back to the house and could tell I wasn’t even close to the shape I was in 10 years ago. Today, my butt hurts from the narrow seat and my back hurts from using my atrophied muscles. I’m hoping to go for a short ride today when I get home, just so it becomes part of my routine.

True, Face Off was very unbelievable, but you have to admit
Cage and Travolta did a great job acting out each other's mannerisms. Very entertaining
