More cheese please...

Yesterday was Vanessa’s last teaching day of the school year. We met-up in Irvine at a fondue restaurant (The Melting Pot) with some of the teachers and staff she works with. I always feel awkward at these events. There are about 10 teachers and some of them bring their husbands, but since the conversation mostly revolves around teaching and students I, along with the other husbands, spend our time just zoning out and pretending to listen.

I was fortunate that we sat with some interesting people this time, so that part wasn’t as painful. What was painful was the service at this place. Everything is expensive. The menu consists of 8 pages, but 5 of the pages are the wine list. We were there for FOUR HOURS!!! Most of those four hours was waiting for the serving staff to bring out the food. It took about 45 mintutes for them to bring the bill. Everyone was just sitting there waiting to leave. On top of it all, you have to cook your own food! I paid $120.00 for four hours of bad service, cooking my own food, and listening to teacher stories. To top it off the food was lousy, because I didn't know what I was doing.

  • Fondue, I say, next time, Fondont [zanny music here]!

Also, I think techncially speaking, Irvine is South of your location. So you went DOWN to Irvine, not UP.

Did you put any molten fondue in your mouth? Did you fondue the skin that came off afterwards?

  • No... I didn't "pull a Page" this time. Wow... that takes on a whole new meaning when I write it out. Anyway, I didn't burn the skin off of the roof of my mouth. The best part is I just checked my bank account and they charged me an extra $30 more than the bill stated. I think I am going to have to make some phone calls.
