Ben Franklin ain’t got nothing on me

I did something stupid this weekend.  When I hired the moving guys they did a really good job.  They covered everything in blankets, wrapped everything in saran wrap, and taped all of the loose cords.  When they cut off the tape for the lamp cord, they also cut part of the cord.  On Saturday, I went to the Home Depot and purchased some lamp wire and a new plug.  I watched my dad rewire a lamp before, so I was confident.  I took apart the lamp, pulled the old wire out of the base, attached the new wire to the light bulb sockets, and started running the new cord down the lamp to the base.  That’s when I realized I had purchased the wrong plug.  So, in the meantime I figured I would use the old plug and just connect the new wiring to it. 
 
So here comes the stupid part.  I cut the old cord… while it was still plugged into the wall.  I heard several loud snaps and then saw a blue cloud.  Luckily the wire cutters had a rubber grip, so I didn’t get shocked.  I burned two holes through the wire cutters and burned a little spot on my foot where a small piece of the wire cutters landed after getting singed.

Anyway, the lamp is fixed now.
