More holidays… please!

Thanks to all of the Veterans I was able to make it to work quickly this morning. This has distracted me now. Rather than thinking about all of the Veterans and what they have given to this country, all I can think about is how we can create more National Holidays. The last holiday I remember being implemented was Martin Luther King Day (started in 1986). This pleased me to no end, because I was born on the same day as MLK. This meant I would always get a day off on or around my birthday.

My workplace does not give us the day off for Veteran’s Day, so I’m not looking for more holidays so I can get the day off. I just want everyone else to have the day off so I can have a smooth ride into work and a quick drive home.

I was hoping, and I still think it might happen, that September 11th will become a holiday. The term Patriots Day has been thrown around as a name for this day. The argument came up stating what if something like September 11th happens again. My answer – create another holiday!

Other National Holiday ideas
1. Groundhog’s Day (February 2nd)
2. Fat Tuesday (46 days before Easter, Tuesday between February 3rd and 9th)
3. Valentine’s Day (February 14th)
4. St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th)
5. April Fool’s Day (April 1st)
6. Flag Day (June 14th)
7. Constitution Day (September 17th)
8. Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19th)
9. Leif Erikson Day (October 9th)
10. Halloween (October 31st)
11. Election Day (Tuesday on or after November 2nd)
12. Pearl Harbor Day (December 7th)
13. Boston Tea Party Day (December 16th)

I think the goal should be to have 20 National Holidays a year. These should be spread out, so there is at least one each month. Any other ideas?

  • California has Cesar Chavez Day on March 31st. Also, S&M day. Look into that.

  • I think Boston Tea Party Day sounds awesome. If you need me to sign a petition or something.

Also, what if everyone worked 4 days a week and got rid of weekends. That might help traffic, since different people would be in different days of the week.

  • Hey, any excuse for a holiday. S&M day sounds like fun. Keep the suggestions comming. The 4 day workweek is a great idea. I would be more than willing to work 4 days and put in 10 hours a day.
