The last 5 years
May 1st marked 5 years that Vanessa and I have officially been together. It made me start thinking about the last five years. Where we were then and where are we now. A lot has changed for us.
Jobs
Vanessa was teaching at a Catholic High School in Burbank. When we moved to Anaheim, she was a long-term substitute teacher for the first year, before getting a permanent position at Orangeview Jr. High. I was working as a Purchasing Manager for Marriott, I then went to work for Metropolitan Provisions as a Systems Manager and Inventory Control Manager, and for the last 14 months I have been at Paul Davril as a Project Manager. At the end of this year our combined income will be double what it was 5 years ago. Not bad.
Where we live
I was living with Mike in Covina and Vanessa had her own place in Burbank. We moved to San Gabriel after dating for only 3 months. A year later we moved to a one bedroom apartment in Anaheim to be closer to work and lower our rent. After 18 long months in Anaheim we moved to Yorba Linda (a much safer neighborhood and two extra bedrooms). After 18 months at that place we moved to out current place. We like our neighborhood and our neighbors, but it would be nice to get a house.
Where we’ve been
We love to travel. Working for Marriott helped when we were making less money. Together, we’ve gone to Las Vegas, San Diego, Parker, San Francisco, Capitola, Monterey, Sonoma, Walla Walla, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Banff, Mendocino, England, Germany, and Austria. We have also spent weekends locally in Newport Beach and Pasadena. Great memories.
People we miss
We each lost a grandparent since we’ve been together. Vanessa lost her Grandpa on Valentine’s Day just over 3 years ago. I lost my Grandma, Helen, just over a year ago.
Overall, the last 5 years have been great. We are fortunate to have great families and great friends. I can’t even tell you how many amazing meals and great bottles of wine we’ve had together. I’m looking forward to the next five years and the adventures we’ll have together. Vanessa’s just looking forward to finishing her Masters program in December.

Ha, ha, ha...
I mentioned those because we treated it like a vacation by packing a suitcase and staying at a hotel or Bed and Breakfast.
