Ironic? No, sometimes things just suck.

I have begun planning the nity grity details for our trip to Europe. At first glance December 24th through January 9th seemed like a great time to go. The airfare is cheap, there aren’t a lot of people over there, etc. As we get closer, I am starting to wonder. We are landing in London on Christmas Day. Well, all of the subways are closed Christmas Day. I found a train that runs from the airport to a station about ½ a mile from the hotel, so I think we are just going to have to walk.

December 26th is Boxing Day, so a lot of the attractions are closed. I was able to do some research on the internet to find enough things that will be open that day, so we can stay busy.

The next dilemma I am dealing with is Sunday, January 2nd, when we are in Germany. I was planning on having us take a train to Koblenz (a little town on the Rhine river), and hopping on a 6 hour cruise down the river while looking at castles. Well, the cruise runs every day except Christmas, New Years Day, and January 2nd. Why? I don’t know. So, I decided to rent a car. The car rental place is closed on Sundays in Neuss (the town I’m in on January 1st) and in Koblenz. No luck. I think I can take a train to Cologne, then switch to another train that goes to the airport, then rent a car.

It makes me wonder how difficult it was before widespread use of the Internet.

I can deal with all of this as long as I have my cast off before I leave. I am not walking around in the snow with a cast!!!
