Vegas and my court appearance

On Friday I left work early, hurried home, and loaded up the car. James, Reina, Vanessa, and I started the trip to Vegas. I tried to baby the car as much as possible, but it was so hard. I made sure not to stomp on the gas. It was fun to drive, but a 4 hour drive is still a 4 hour drive. That night we went to Downtown Vegas. I had never been there before, but the movie Swingers wasn’t far off. I think the lights attract weird people like moths.

The next day we hung out at the pool. I saw Mike and Caroline for the first time since October. It was nice to hang out, but now that I think about, I didn’t see them that much. It was GREAT having a room with James and Reina. I was a little worried about spending all of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with them, but it was great and we had a great time. Saturday night we all went to Rum Jungle (Mandalay Bay) for dinner and KA (Cirque du Soleil) at MGM. Lot’s of fun. I heard Steve had a great time that night, but I wasn’t there, so don’t ask me. Vanessa and I left Vegas making $50 on blackjack and spending… I don’t want to think about that.

We left early on Sunday to get jump on the traffic, so we stopped in Baker for breakfast/lunch. When I got back in the car the odometer was at 602 miles. Oh… past the break in point. I was relatively good, since I had a full car.

I have had some fun with the car this week (just a little). I did a couple of 0 – 60 runs trying the automatic and manual shifting, Stability Control on and off. FUN!!!

I was at work until 10:30 pm last night BBQing for the night shift, then I had to get up at 6:00 am this morning FOR JURY DUTY. YUCK! The navigation made getting to the courthouse a no-brainer, but sitting in a room for 4 ½ hours really sucked. Luckily, at noon they didn’t need us anymore, so I was sent home (back to work). So I am done with jury duty. It wasn’t really that exciting. I returned to work to find Barney took a 2 hour lunch. WHAT THE FUCK!!! He had also sent out a couple of emails that I completely disagreed with. We had another one of those talks. I’m getting fed-up again.

I am going to have to work Labor Day weekend. I will still get Monday off, but will work Saturday and Sunday. Dad is starting to count down the weeks. He isn’t quite to the “I don’t care” point, but it’s just around the corner.

Later.

No one guessed?

Okay, I’ll tell you anyway. Sunday, on the way home from Big Bear we stopped to pick up my (our) new Acura TL! I have wanted this car for 4 years. The week before we picked it up I couldn’t sleep. Literally. I had to take sleeping pills to get a couple hours of sleep. Now that I have it I can’t believe it.

So what makes an Acura TL so special? I won’t list everything, but it has 5.1 surround sound, navigation, voice recognition for 293 different car functions, separate climate controls for passenger and driver, auto dimming rear-view mirror, it tracks the sun and cools that side of the car down a couple of extra degrees to compensate. When I push the unlock button, the car adjusts the seats, mirrors, climate control, radio stations, headlight preferences, and door lock/unlock preferences to the way I set it up. It will do the same thing for Vanessa’s preferences when she uses her keys. It has 270 horsepower, top speed of 153 mph, 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, and I can choose to shift manual or automatic depending on how I feel. It will also link up with a Bluetooth phone and I can make or receive calls through the voice recognition and car speakers.

I love it! I have been treating it like a baby for the first 600 miles (300 more to go). So on the way back from Vegas then I can play with the engine a little. I had to leave it in the garage today, because they are repaving our street and I didn’t want to park it in the street. So, I’m really looking forward to driving to Vegas and back. Actually, I look forward to driving anywhere! Thank you to Vanessa for helping me and letting me get my favorite car! Zooooooom!

1st Anniversary and my new toy

First, I have a new toy. I have wanted this for 4 years and it is finally mine. Unfortunately, I am not willing to tell you what it is yet, so you can guess (only if I haven’t already told you).

Yesterday was our 1st anniversary. It’s amazing how fast the year went. Vanessa planned a weekend away for us in Big Bear. I took off early from work on Friday and we drove up. When we got to the Bed and Breakfast they had fresh cookies waiting for us and showed us to our room. V booked the Presidential Suite, so we had to rough it with a stone fireplace, a Jacuzzi tub, and a bed that was like 4-feet off the ground (I almost fell when getting out). We set our stuff down, grabbed some cookies and some ice tea, and we climbed onto the two-person hammock in the garden. Ahh. I was relaxed immediately. Usually it takes a couple of days for me to unwind, but not this time.

We spent the weekend eating at little restaurants in town, checking out some classic cars (an unexpected car show was going on), and just enjoying each others company. It was really nice. The weather was perfect all weekend. I love you Ness. Thank you for a great weekend.

The job is going well. I find myself smiling sometimes for no reason. Today, Barney called in sick (cough, cough). I was proud that I was able to keep up with his stuff and my stuff without getting behind or getting flustered. I knew I could hand stuff off to my dad for help, but I didn’t, because he won’t be there soon. I am trying not to rely on him except when it is absolutely necessary. It has been extremely rewarding working with him. Aside from the fact that he buys me lunch every day, I have been able to spend a lot of time with him and to see how much everyone depends on him.

Congratulations to Brian and Kelly. Sorry I couldn’t be there. I will update on Thursday and let you know what my new toy is….

Okay, okay, okay…

I’ve had three people in the last day ask me to update, so here you go. I am incredibly busy at work, but I am still enjoying it. Right now I am looking forward to the next three weekends. This weekend is the company picnic (not really looking forward to that part), then we are going to Mark’s place (One of Vanessa’s teacher friends) to hang out, have dinner and walk around to look at art displays. We’ve done this before and it’s fun. Last time my foot was broken, so I think this time it will be more enjoyable.

The weekend after that (August 12th to 14th) we are going to Big Bear for our Anniversary (August 15th) and staying at a Bed and Breakfast. I don’t know that much about it, since I told Vanessa to plan it and not to tell me anything. I’m really looking forward to getting away.

The weekend after that (August 19th to 21st) VEGAS BABY!!! I am looking forward to this trip so much! I need Vegas. I’m going through withdrawals. I can’t remember the last time I was there. I miss it all, the gambling, the drinking, the strip, the pool, the drive out, but not the drive back.

Today was Vanessa’s last day of teaching Summer school. She still has a busy schedule with her Master’s classes, technology class, etc., but at least she will get a couple of days off.

Only two more months until my dad leaves for Thailand. I think it is finally starting to sink in for everyone. He bought his airline ticket on Tuesday. I am already starting to plan a trip for Vanessa and I to visit him. I’m still not sure when, but probably next Summer 2006 or Christmas 2006.

That’s all for tonight. Oh yeah… I promised a Barney update. He’s doing okay. He’s actually had some good ideas we are putting into practice. Yes, there are still problems. Yes it still takes me asking 5 times to get some things done, but overall he’s doing good. I know that’s not as much fun to read, but that’s what’s up.

Later.
