Put up or shut up
“To obtain a management position in which I can demonstrate and utilize my knowledge in Inventory Management, Warehouse Management Systems, and Purchasing within a company that rewards proficient and loyal employees through recognition and promotion. “
That is the Objective listed at the top o my resume. Cheesy? Maybe a little, but honest. I don’t think enough bosses give employees compliments or pats on the back. No, I’m not searching for a new job. I really enjoy my job. Today, I received my 1st Quarter Goals (January through the end of March). Normally, I would get these the first or second week of January, but when my boss gets too work at 6:00 AM and leaves me voicemails at 9:30 PM, it’s hard for me to complain that she hasn’t told me my goals yet. At 5:30 PM today she called me to discuss the goals, so I headed up to her office.
So, the first goal she gave me was to finish the Freezer project. This is basically a gimme since the Freezer will be finished. I was relieved to see it on there, because if it wasn’t then I would have been upset. I would have talked to her about it, and I would had a lot of resentment. I have spent hundreds of hours on the Freezer project. Even though the President of the Los Angeles Division is taking me out to lunch to thank me (gloat, gloat), money is always a nice “thank you”.

My second goal is to research which vendors we purchase perishable items from, determine the money provided from those vendors to offset those losses, determine which vendors we don’t get money from, and determine why the product goes bad (bad purchasing, inconsistent customers, etc).
Anyway she told me the reason she and the president decided to give me this project is I am their “go to guy”. She said they both agreed that I am the person they turn to when they need a project done and want results without excuses or sugar coating. That was great to hear, but is also a lot to live up to. My dad was always this guy. Now it’s me. The only problem with this is all I have to do is screw up once to loose their faith. I guess it’s time to step up.
P.S. My dad has lost 46 pounds since moving to Thailand!!! I'm so proud of him!
